AlphaNautical Marine Sales, Inc.
ALPHANAUTICAL CONSIGNMENT POLICY
REVISED:
1 June 2009
CONSIGNMENT - GENERAL INFORMATION:
AlphaNautical advertises and sells "water
related" art from individual
consignors. It may only be purchased online
using a credit card. ALL art is an original work. AlphaNautical does not knowingly advertise or sell any art that is a copy or reproduction. Consignor must provide a completed consignment form which is faxed to us. Acceptable digital images must also be sent to us as attachments to an email. All consignments are for a specific term with a minimum of 3 months. Upon a sale of the art, it is to be shipped to AlphaNautical, inspected as being in accordance with what was advertised, and then shipped by AlphaNautical to the buyer. The consignor is responsible for the cost of crating and shipping the art to AlphaNautical but NOT for the shipment to our buyer. Should it be necessary to return the art to the consignor for any reason, the consignor agrees to pay for ALL costs required to return the art.
RATES:
Our
fee is 40% of the final negotiated selling
price. You are responsible for the expenses
to ship the art to us. CONSIGNMENT FEES APPLY
ONLY IF THE ART IS SOLD.
ABOUT THE GALLERY:
AlphaNautical Gallery is an on-line art gallery
only and does not maintain a public display facility.
All art advertised and sold in this Galley is original fine art.
ADDITIONAL CONSIGNMENT POLICY:
* We require an EXCLUSIVE consignment for a minimum
of THREE months (90 days).
* We do not accept consignments of art that can not be advertised publically.
* In order to protect the privacy of our consignors
and buyers, the art is shipped to us, inspected
& finally shipped from us to the buyer. Buyer and seller names are not divulged other than what is stated in the provenance and history of the painting.
* We look for well-framed, beautiful art, by a select group of artists.
* We only take consignments of fine art (oil
paintings, etc.). We do not handle, prints,
artist signed reproductions, numbered prints,
artist prints, lithographs, etc.
* We only accept consignments of FRAMED ART
that is clean & in good condition. (i.e. not
in need of restoration.) Let us know in advance
if there are any imperfections, chips, creases,
etc in either the frame or canvas and we will
note it so the buyer is not surprised.
* If the painting has been in a home where
there was a smoker, we are NOT interested
in the painting.
* If this "original" painting is from a garage sale, we DEFINITELY ARE NOT INTERESTED.
* Our art is predominantly seascapes
or landscapes with "water" somewhere in the
scene. We generally only make exceptions for
art by our listed artists.
* We will list the painting on the AlphaNautical
web site and on other art web sites as our
allotted space permits. We are limited to
80 paintings on AskArt.com
so your listing there will be based on an
available slot, the quality of the painting,
and the quality of your photo.
* When shipping to us, we request that you insure and crate the
painting at a Mail Boxes Etc (or similar service)
near you and have it sent UPS or FedEx to us.
* We maintain no insurance on art while it is in our facility for inspection or re-shipment to the buyer.
* We maintain no insurance on any residual art that has been left with us on long-term consignment.
* We also take art directly from artists
providing that they do not have an exclusive agreement with another gallery. We prefer that the artist provides art that has been stretched and framed, but if art is accepted from an artist and the art requires framing, these expenses will be deducted from the final negotiated selling price before calculating the payment to the artist.
* Please provide as much information as possible
about the cost of the painting to help us
set a price that will be satisfactory to all
parties involved.
* We will make the final determination of
the OFFICIAL SALE PRICE which will be the
LOWER of the LIST price or the SPECIAL price.
* Once the buying client has purchased the
painting by a cleared credit card payment or
by a cleared check, we will
send you a check written on our company account.
* If you have multiple
paintings, then they must all be water-related unless an exception is agreed to in advance.
* The amount paid to you will be the NET amount
after the deduction of our fee upon the sale
of each piece of art. We will alert you by
a phone call or email that a sale has been
made.
* If the painting is not in our possession at the time of sale,
we expect the painting to be shipped by UPS
or FedEx directly to AlphaNautical Marine
Sales Inc. (1423 Stagecoach Dr., Richardson,
TX 75080 USA)
within FIVE (5) business days. Be sure it
is FULLY insured and properly crated. We will open
the shipment, inspect it & then forward it
on to the buying client.
PHOTO TIPS/REQUIREMENTS:
Please follow these steps to provide us with an acceptable digital image of the original art:
1) Take the photo outside with a digital
camera. Be sure to have sufficient full
outside light on the subject (painting and
frame) when taking the picture.
2) The sun should be to your back, but be
sure you do not cast a shadow on the painting.
3) Make sure the painting is perfectly level
& vertical and not leaning or tilted.
4) If there is someone in back of the painting
(to protect it from falling), please make
sure there are no fingers on the frame.
5) We suggest using a flash, even during
the day.
6) Make sure the camera feature
that puts a time or date stamp on the photo
is tuned OFF.
7) Stand directly in front
of the painting with the digital camera
at the same level as the middle of the painting.
8) Be sure the photo is taken close enough
to just barely include the frame.
9) Send the "jpg" image (or images) as a “file”
(not as a picture) attachment to your email.
10) We will crop and auto balance the jpg
image for placement on the web site.
THE
CONSIGNMENT CHECKLIST:
In addition to the image
(if requested), we will need the following:

PAPERWORK to prove the authenticity of the
painting. If this painting is listed in the
Provenance of the Artist, please include this

might include a Bill of Sale, a Certificate

However, in most cases, it will suffice to
detail the family ownership history. If this
is a Yard sale purchase, we are NOT interested
since most likely it is a copy or a canvas
transfer.
c) ARTIST: The full name of the ARTIST. If
this is not a well-known artist, some biographical
information (place of birth, year of birth,
year of death, general bio info) is required
or the painting can not be listed on AskArt.com.

on the painting (lower left or lower right),
the name that was signed, any title plate
(info & location), and any information from
the back of the painting.

oil on canvas or tell us exactly what it is
(water color, mixed media, etc.).

by the WIDTH in inches. Additionally, we prefer
that you include the dimensions of the painting
with the frame.

must include your name, business or residence
address, phone number, & email address.
h) ANY DEFECTS: Note carefully and defects,
chips, cuts, creases, discoloration, smoke
damage, damage on the back, etc.
