CONSIGNMENTS
AlphaNautical Gallery
REVISED: 11 September 2008

CONSIGNMENT OF FINE ART - GENERAL INFORMATION:
Our CONSIGNMENT ART is from a variety of individuals and private collections. The categories of art that we are seeking and the artists of interest to us are all found on the front page of our web site. If the art you wish to consign meets this initial criteria, then we ask that you contact us by email to discuss the information we require. As a general rule, we only accept "in gallery" consignments which require the pre-approval of both Joseph E. Stephenson and Andy Roughton.

It is no longer possible to purchase online by credit card. Instead, we sell all art by cleared check or by bank wire.

NOTE: It is quite possible for an out-of-town check to require 10 to 15 days to clear.

IN GALLERY CONSIGNMENT RATES:
Our fee is 40% of the final selling price.

ABOUT THE GALLERY:
AlphaNautical Gallery shares space with RW Fine Arts. All art in this Galley is original fine art.

The gallery is located at:
C/O RW Fine Art - 12700 Hillcrest Rd. - Suite 291 - Dallas, TX 75230

(The gallery location is operated by Mr. Andy Roughton a renown Dallas gallery Director for more than 30 years. Mr. Roughton, a specialist in French Impressionst art, travels to Europe monthly to acquire art. Mr. Stephenson is a specialist in "water-related" art. He and his wife Esther are the owners of AlphaNautical Gallery which is a division of AlphaNautical Marine Sales, Inc. & North Texas Copier, Inc.)

POLICY:
* We require an EXCLUSIVE consignment for a minimum of THREE months (90 days).
* In order to protect the privacy of our consignors and buyers, the art is shipped to us, inspected & finally shipped from us to the buyer.
* All art placed on consignment must be PRE-APPROVED, meaning that we have seen an image of the art and received all the information required on the checklist found below.
* We look for well-framed, beautiful art, by a select group of artists.
* We only take consignments of fine art (oil paintings, etc.). We do not handle, prints, numbered prints, artist prints, lithographs, etc.
* We only accept framed art that is clean & in good condition. (i.e. not in need of restoration.) Let us know in advance if there are any imperfections, chips, creases, etc in either the frame or canvas and we will note it so the buyer is not surprised. If the painting has been in home where there was a smoker we are NOT interested in the painting.
* Space in the gallery for consignments is limited so we are quite selective.
* We will list the painting on the AlphaNautical web site and on other art web sites as our allotted space permits. We are limited to 80 paintings on AskArt.com so your listing there will be based on an available slot, the quality of the painting, and the quality of your photo. All "rare art" will also be listed in www.ArtCyclopedia.com
* When shipping to us, we request that you insure and crate the painting at a Mail Boxes Etc (or similar service) near you and have it sent UPS or FedEx to us. We will then have it under our insurance coverage and be responsible for it until it is sold or returned to you at our expense. We will make the photos & post it to our web site on the Internet.
* If you are an artist and would like for us to carry some of your pieces on an "Exclusive" basis, we will review and select pieces from your portfolio that will work well in our gallery.
* If you are an art gallery and would like for us to carry some of your pieces on an "Exclusive" basis, we will review and select pieces from your portfolio that will work well in our gallery.
* Please provide as much information as possible about the cost of the painting to help us set a price that will be satisfactory to all parties involved.
* We will make the final determination of the OFFICIAL SALE PRICE which will be the LOWER of the LIST price or the SPECIAL price. The official sale price does NOT include any surcharge we add for shipping, handling, crating or insurance.
* Once the buying client has purchased the painting, we will send you a check written on our company account. * If you have multiple paintings, then they must all be in the categories and by the artists listed on the front page of our web site.
* The amount paid to you will be the NET amount after the deduction of our fee upon the sale of each piece of art. We will alert you by a phone call or email that a sale has been made.
* When the painting is sold but not in our possession, we expect the painting to be shipped by UPS or FedEx directly to AlphaNautical Marine Sales Inc. (1423 Stagecoach Dr., Richardson, TX 75080 USA or to the gallery address below) within FIVE (5) business days. Be sure it is FULLY insured and properly crated. We will open the shipment, inspect it & then forward it on to the buying client.

PHOTO TIPS/REQUIREMENTS:
We normally make the photos at the Gallery location for our Consignment Art, but should it be necessary to send us an image of the painting, please use the following steps:
1) Take the photo outside with a digital camera. Be sure to have sufficient full outside light on the subject (painting and frame) when taking the picture.
2) The sun should be to your back, but be sure you do not cast a shadow on the painting.
3) Make sure the painting is perfectly level & vertical and not leaning or tilted.
4) If there is someone in back of the painting (to protect it from falling), please make sure there are no fingers on the frame.
5) Use a flash as appropriate to obtain the best light but please be careful not to have a glare on the painting surface.
6) Make sure the camera feature that puts a time or date stamp on the photo is turned OFF.
7) Stand directly in front of the painting with the digital camera at the same level as the middle of the painting.
8) Be sure the photo is taken close enough to just barely include the frame.
9) Send the jpg image as a “file” (not as a picture) attachment to your email.
10) We will re-size, crop and auto balance the jpg image for placement on the web site.

THE CONSIGNMENT CHECKLIST:
In addition to the jpg image, we will need the following:
a) TITLE: The TITLE of the painting. If the title is not known, we will assign a title and will make a caveat in the description of the painting that this was a title assigned by the Gallery Director.
b) PAPERWORK: Any information or COPIES of PAPERWORK to prove the authenticity of the painting. If this painting is listed in the Provenance of the Artist, please include this information. Examples of documents expected might include a Bill of Sale, a Certificate of Authenticity, or a Certificate of Appraisal. However, in most cases, it will suffice to detail the family ownership history. If this is a Yard sale purchase, we are DEFINITELY NOT interested since most likely it is a copy or a canvas transfer.
c) ARTIST: The full name of the ARTIST. If this is not a well-known artist, some biographical information (place of birth, year of birth, year of death, general bio info) is required or the painting can not be listed on AskArt.com.
d) SIGNATURE LOCATION: Details about the SIGNATURE on the painting (lower left or lower right), the name that was signed, any title plate (info & location), and any information from the back of the painting.
e) MEDIUM: We assume nothing about this work of art, so please confirm that this is an oil on canvas or tell us exactly what it is (water color, mixed media, etc.).
f) SIZE: Carefully measure the size of the painting and let us know the HEIGHT in inches by the WIDTH in inches. Additionally, we prefer that you include the dimensions of the painting with the frame.
g) NAME & ADDRESS: Your complete contact information must include your name, business or residence address, phone number, & email address.
h) ANY DEFECTS: Note carefully and defects, chips, cuts, creases, discoloration, smoke damage, damage on the back, etc. Remember that we do not take paintings that have been in a residence or office where smoking was permitted.
i) CONFIRMATION: In your email, please state that you are putting this painting on a 90 day consignment.
